Tour Description: In homage to the Virgen de la Candelaria, Puno celebrates every year the biggest patronal festivity in Peru. This celebration reflects the harmony of Catholic faith and Andean religion, linking the Virgin festival the celebration to the Pachamama or Mother Earth, related to pre-Hispanic agricultural cycles of planting and harvesting. The festival takes place every day during the first two weeks of February and it brings together more than 40 thousand dancers and 9 thousand musicians, mostly from various parts of the Puno department; who brighten the streets of Puno. On the central day, more than 50 thousand visitors from around the world come to this part of the planet to celebrate the Virgen de la Candelaria and with it the endless bands of musicians and inexhaustible dancers, parade in a colorful procession through the city and its cobbled streets.
