Tour Description:
 
In homage to the Virgen de la Candelaria, Puno celebrates every year the biggest patronal festivity in Peru. This celebration reflects the harmony of Catholic faith and Andean religion, linking the Virgin festival the celebration to the Pachamama or Mother Earth, related to pre-Hispanic agricultural cycles of planting and harvesting.
 
The festival takes place every day during the first two weeks of February and it brings together more than 40 thousand dancers and 9 thousand musicians, mostly from various parts of the Puno department; who brighten the streets of Puno.
 
On the central day, more than 50 thousand visitors from around the world come to this part of the planet to celebrate the Virgen de la Candelaria and with it the endless bands of musicians and inexhaustible dancers, parade in a colorful procession through the city and its cobbled streets.

Day 1 ... / Lima

Day 02 Lima / Puno


Transfer from the hotel to the airport.

On your way to the hotel, visit around 45 minuts the famous Chullpas of Sillustani, 12 m/40ft high stone cylinder burial chambers, used by the Aymaras to bury their important leaders. Afterwards you will arrive at the selected hotel.
Rest of the day free to acclimatize to altitude

Day 03 Puno


Visit to the Tinajani stones, where nature created huge geologic towers of vertical overhead stones in the depths of the canyon, then the Archaeological Complex of Kalasaya and the seven wonders of Pucara.

Day 04 Puno


At night, you will be taken to the Virgen de la Candelaria Eve's mass at the San Juan Temple, Sanctuary of the virgin and you'll enjoy the "burn of castles" at the front of the temple.

Day 05 Puno


You will be taken to the Enrique Torres Belon stadium where the celebration begins and you will enjoy the colorful dances of over 70 groups from the Puno neighborhoods. In the afternoon, the procession of the Virgin begins through the main streets joined by the people and the dance groups. Box lunch included.

Day 06 Puno / Lima


In the morning you will be taken to the harbor, to get on a boat and visit the Floating Uros Islands. After visiting the three islands in Totora Balses you will return to Puno and taken to your hotel.
